Jan Rabaey, Aart de Geus and Tsugio Makimoto to Deliver Keynote Addresses at DesignCon 2004

CHICAGO-The International Engineering Consortium (IEC) has announced that three electronics industry luminaries have been selected as keynote speakers for DesignCon 2004. Jan Rabaey, Aart de Geus, and Tsugio Makimoto will deliver keynote addresses on February 2, 3, and 4, respectively. DesignCon, the premier annual education event in Silicon Valley for the electronic design and semiconductor industries, will be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, Calif.

Jan Rabaey is professor and director of the Gigascale Silicon Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to his role with the GSRC, he is the scientific co-director of the Berkeley Wireless Research Center. He is the author of the popular textbook Digital Integrated Circuits - A Design Perspective.

Aart de Geus is chairman and CEO of Synopsys Inc. and chairman of the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group. He co-founded Synopsys in 1986 and has since expanded the company from a start-up synthesis enterprise to the leader in the EDA industry. He is the third recipient ever to receive the IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) Society Industrial Pioneer Award.

Tsugio Makimoto is corporate advisor for Semiconductor Operations at Sony Corporation. He became an IEEE Fellow in 1997 for his contribution to the development and manufacture of high-density MOS devices, and is a pioneer in developing and manufacturing high-density DRAMs and new types of RISC microprocessors.

Greg Spirakis, vice president and director of the Advanced Technology Group at Intel, serves as conference chair of DesignCon 2004.

About DesignCon (http://www.designcon.com) The DesignCon conference program provides education and updates on the latest technology news and advances affecting design engineers working at the chip, board, and system levels. DesignCon 2004 will feature specialized tutorials on nanotechnology and a new conference track devoted to wireless topics. The DesignCon technology exhibition delivers practical approaches, techniques, and procedures directly on the show floor, where leading-edge displays from key organizations offer proven solutions for immediate application.
